When the Calm Breaks
September 7, 2026
We only print still water. So why is there a Turner storm over the print table?
Turner's Fishing Boats with Hucksters Bargaining for Fish hangs in the Art Institute of Chicago, and a proof of it hangs over our print table. It is the one picture in the studio with any wind in it.
It stays because it explains the others. A calm only means something because the sea is usually doing this: lifting the boats, tearing at the sails, turning the light to spray.
Every quiet harbour in the shop is the hour after, or the hour before.
The Turner is not for sale. The calm ones are.
